Frequently Asked Questions on Pediatric Dentistry

There’s no wrong time to bring your child in for treatment at Smile Buddy. We treat infants, toddlers, school-age children, and young adults. We recommend scheduling your first visit six months after your child’s first tooth erupts.
The difference is in the type of training pediatric dentists receive. Pedodontists complete two extra years of child-specific training, learning about tooth development, physical growth, and even child behaviour.
Temporary teeth, otherwise known as baby teeth, can succumb to erosion and cavities just like permanent teeth. This damage could affect your child’s speaking, chewing, and smiling. Cavities can also cause damage to the permanent teeth below.
In order to ease your child’s fear, we keep treatment to a minimum. We will check your child's existing teeth, gums, and jaw. At the end of the visit, we will inform you about the condition of your child’s teeth, provide guidance regarding oral health care basics, and discuss their dental development.
