Pediatric Dental Care by a Pediatric Dental Specialist

At Smile Buddy Children's Dentistry, our pediatric dentist and staff are experts at getting smiles from kids and parents alike.

We know how important your child’s smile is. Every happy occasion is accompanied by a big smile, from the sprouting of their very first teeth, to picture day at school, to their wedding day and beyond. Together, we can make sure that your child enjoys a healthy and beautiful smile for life!

    Preventive Dentistry

We will try our best to catch problems before they develop, to ensure your child enjoys a lifetime of great dental health.

    Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride helps your child's teeth rebuild enamel and build protection from decay.

    Cavity Filling

For optimal health, all teeth need protection from cavities: even temporary ones. We can place small white fillings, crowns, or sealants that will prevent further decay.

    Tooth Extraction

To prevent crowding, decay, risk of infection, or to encourage your child’s positive dental development, a tooth may need to come out.

    Laughing Gas Sedation

Some children may need a little extra help to overcome their anxiety. With nitrous oxide, your child will feel less pain and a sensation of giddiness, comfort, and well-being.

    General Anesthesia Treatment

In some situations, going to sleep can help your child through treatment. All general anesthetics are provided by pediatric anesthesiologists and nurses to ensure excellent quality.

    What We Do

    Pediatric Dentistry

Dental checkups, cleanings, and more: specially tailored for children.

    First Visit

We will introduce your child to dentistry carefully and perform limited treatment, all in a non-threatening environment.

    Emergency Pediatric Dentistry

Whether it’s trauma or an infection, we will see your child right away and make sure they are relaxed and comfortable.

    Why is Pediatric Dentistry Important?

A high standard of oral health is vital at any stage of your child’s development. Whether it’s their infancy, childhood, or adolescence, Pediatric Dentistry plays a crucial role in:

      • Maintaining hygiene
      • Encouraging proper development
      • Keeping smiles sparkling

They may be temporary, but they still need to be checked out by a pediatric dentist. Even if your child has only grown one or two teeth, we still recommend scheduling your first dental visit within six months of the first one appearing. This way, we can keep an eye on them as they erupt and, if necessary, treat them for cavities.

You may be thinking that cavity treatment on a temporary tooth is unnecessary; after all, it’s only going to fall out soon anyway! But the truth is that decay on a temporary tooth can spread infection, cause your child pain, and even damage the adult tooth below it!

As your child’s adult teeth begin to erupt, it’s important that a pediatric dentist keeps them clean and tracks their development. The way they grow will be an indicator of any problems they may face in the future, such as crowding, gaps, or misalignment. If we find a potential issue, we can fix it before it ever appears. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Your teenager’s teeth are fully grown in, but that doesn’t make regular appointments with your pediatric dentist any less important. We can keep your teen’s teeth clean and healthy, and even plan orthodontic treatment for any issues that may have appeared. A teenager’s life is full of difficulties and changes. Having a beautiful smile doesn’t have to be one of them!

Frequently Asked Questions About Pediatric Dentistry

There’s no wrong time to bring your child in for treatment at Smile Buddy Children's Dentistry. We treat infants, toddlers, school-age children, and young adults. We recommend scheduling your first visit six months after your child’s first tooth erupts.
The difference is in the type of training pediatric dentists receive. Pedodontists complete two extra years of child-specific training, learning about tooth development, physical growth, and even child behaviour.
Temporary teeth, otherwise known as baby teeth, can succumb to erosion and cavities just like permanent teeth. This damage could affect your child’s speaking, chewing, and smiling. Cavities can also cause damage to the permanent teeth below.
In order to ease your child’s fear, we keep treatment to a minimum. We will check your child's existing teeth, gums, and jaw. At the end of the visit, we will inform you about the condition of your child’s teeth, provide guidance regarding oral health care basics, and discuss their dental development.
